The 5610 and 5620 IP Telephones have additional application functionality. Push of audio and textual alerts to the phones is now supported through the application programming interfaces (APIs) on these phones.

The Avaya Phone Application Suite includes a set of pre-packaged phone applications for use on the 5610 and 5620. Please refer to the Phone Application Suite section on avaya.com for more details.

Comprehensive Functions and Capabilities
There is no need to retrain people to use Avaya IP Telephones, because they use the same familiar operations as other Avaya phones.
Avaya 5600 Series IP Telephones provide the same advanced calling features and functions as traditional Avaya telephones. Such as:
  • message waiting indicator
  • easily readable displays
  • hearing aid compatibility
  • NetMeeting compatibility
  • multiple programmable feature keys
  • display navigation keys
Simplified Wiring with a Single 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN Connection
Helps reduce wiring and installation costs. The wiring can be further simplified by using the available 802.3af-based Power over Ethernet capability to deliver power to the phone over the LAN, rather than using a wall plug.

Industry-standard Protocol Support
Delivers high-quality features based upon industry standards, rather than proprietary solutions, for better interoperability.
Avaya IP Telephones operate with industry-standard protocols and advanced software, including:
  • H.323 and SIP protocols for voice communication over an Internet Protocol network
  • G.711 and G.729A/B voice coders a variety of Quality of Service capabilities
      Including:
    • UDP Port selection at Layer 4
    • Diffserv priority numbering at Layer 3
    • 802.1p/q at Layer 2
  • The IP telephones support the 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard.
Simplified Software Provisioning imple, centralized software provisioning can help reduce implementation and maintenance expense.

Push of Content With Release 2.1 of the 5600 Series IP Telephone firmware (which applies to the 5610 and 5620 telephones), comes support for a new feature called "push". "Push" is the capability of an application using the WML protocol to send content to the telephone without the user requesting it, and (potentially) overriding what the user is otherwise experiencing. This capability is being made available to 3rd-party developers through Software Developer Kits (SDKs). Content can be pushed to the phones via a text message, WML web page, or an audio stream through the handset or speaker.

IP telephones become applications-enabled appliances instead of just phones. The addition of push enables phone displays and/or audio to support a variety of applications such as:
  • web browsing
  • time reporting
  • emergency alerts
  • travel reservations
  • account code entry
  • visual voice mail
  • announcements
  • branding via screensaver
  • zone paging
  • inventory lookups
  • scheduling
End users can access IP Telephone software upgrades and enhancements on the Avaya Support Web site. For example, SIP software for the Avaya 5602/5602SW can be downloaded from this site to a TFTP server for enterprise-wide provisioning. New releases of software are provisioned in this manner.

Web Browser, Local Speed Dial, and Call Log Applications Benefit Access to web-based applications and information as well as the added efficiencies of speed dials and call logs stored in the telephone.
